A Career Break For Raising Children Has Enormous Potential For Your CV

When it is time to re-enter the job market there may be hurdles to overcome when you are creating or updating your CV. Your career break may mean that you have to take a step back and perhaps retrain, especially as you may find that things have moved on in your area of work.

Of course, it depends how long you have been away from the job market and whether your employer has given you leave and perhaps kept your job open for you.

The longer you have been away from your job, Sylvania octron the more work you will have to do to convince a potential employer that you are up-to-date in your field, and that you will not have any significant childcare issues when you return to work.

You will need to show the transferable skills you now have from your time spent raising your family or looking after your young children. People, especially women, returning to the workforce, tend to overlook these until they are made aware of the potential benefits of knowledge and experience gained in this way.

You can fill those inevitable gaps on your CV by highlighting things you have done or achieved outside your home during your career break. These can include voluntary work - maybe helping at your child's school or at the local place of worship or scouts, brownies or similar. You may have been keen to learn new skills - highlight these even if not directly relevant to your career. Mention new hobbies or interests - and always extract from your activities relevant and useful transferable skills that you can bring to your next employer.
